working on a 01 explorer, the tail light/stop light/ blinker quit working and I assumed a bad bulb. But the bulb was fine. I tossed a new one at it anyway and same problem. I have voltage at my tail light but the brake light and blinker are out. i have less than 1/10 of a volt at my brake light pin. i started tracing my wire back ( blue w orange) and I loose it after the jack storage area. I pulled the sill plate and checked the harness but have to blue/orange wire. I dont have a wiring diagram does anyone know if this wire changes color along the way?? Thanks!
A typical issue with these Explorers is wiring being pulled loose from the connector at the multifunction switch. Turn on the signal and move the column up and down and see if your light comes back on. I can provide you with a wiring diagram if you still need it.
Yep I found it. The blue and white wire pulled out of the harness. Grabbed it with a small needle nose and pulled some slack toward the harness and plugged it back in. Good as new thanks!
As many years as the Explorers had that issue it looks like Ford would have corrected it. Glad it fixed it. If it pulls out again make sure it's plugged back in good and fill the back side of the connector with silicone RTV and plug it in.
