Wow, these trucks are heavy!

I weighed mine today at the local CAT scale, and I was surprised that it weighs 9220 lbs.

This weight was with me and a full tank. The truck does have a heavy toolbox, heavier than normal wheels and tires, and a 250 lb bumper and 100 lb winch.

These trucks are getting to the point where they only have enough pay load capacity to carry themselves. Given 9,220#, and assuming some factors such as no one was in the truck, the GVWR could quickly be approached without a significant payload. Four men and their golf bags could be the sum total of the payload!

I think you will see a trend downward in the near future. EPA is going to make to where reductions in our class will happen.

We will all have to drive 18 wheelers to pull trailers.

My GVWR is 9800 lbs, so I suppose I can only legally haul 600 lbs when I have a full tank. Honestly, I would feel safe hauling more than that. I have added Helwig helper springs to the rear, eliminating any sag. I installed the LP-35 series helpers, and they are awesome!

My 08 has a GVWR of 13K and weighs in at 9200 lbs 5th wheel hitch, full fuel , two people and misc "stuff" that puts the real CC at 3800lbs. The pin weight of my 5th wheel is 2900lbs so we are Ok....however the heavy truck takes away from the GVW(truck and camper).
The GM and Dodge are several hundred lbs lighter and will pull just as well. The Ford is a tough truck but if towing a heavy camper you got to think twice...that is not a slam as we have pulled with two Ford trucks...just the way it is.

Just going with what you are saying, the Dodge as a lower GVWR by a fair margin, almost 1000lbs, and I'm guessing the truck doesn't way 1000lbs less, my dad has just ordered a dually with a GVWR of 13300lbs, his buddies(my friends dad) truck which is the Dodge can not handle as much camper as what my dads will handle when he gets it.

these truck can carry way more than they are rated for trust me i have done it over and over.....in my 7.3 truck stock suspension i have put 5000lbs in the bed and have drove well over 250 miles and one time i had 3600 lbs in the same truck and drove to north dakota round trip was i think 3400 miles
