C6 shifting weird

Here are the symptoms,
when I put it in drive, it's not going into gear right away, sometimes it needs the RPM's built up and will go into gear kinda hard. But if I don't stay on it, it dis-engages. Like it's slipping. (this is usually when first starting out, cold)

When I get going, it will stay in first gear way to long. Used to shift around 10-15 mph when leaving a stop light, now it rev' pretty high (to high).

Once driving, it seems to be ok after I get going (weird part)

any ideas?
I was thinking torque converter
But maybe more like it's the modulator, but I don't know how to check this

Thanks in advance

First thing to check is the vacuum supply to the trans. There should be a hard line to the trans with a little rubber pipe connecting it to the vacuum modulator, check the condition of the rubber pipe and the one connecting the hard line to the engine.
Pull the rubber pipe off at the transmission and look for any signs of transmission fluid in, if any found replace the modulator.

How could it be the torque converter? That doesn't make any sense. What does the torque converter have to do with engaging gears or shifting?

I think the clutch seals are old, hard, and worn out. Rebuild time.
