very commonly asked.unfortunately the international diesel block does not share the fords gas engines bolt pattern.
your looking for the ZF5/5 speed manual diesel specific trans.
hey actually i stand corrected.
type4 (Russ.a 30 yr experianced diesel mechanic, mainly found at oil burners.net,but he visits here too.) has done it.here is what he says with pic included:
The final answer is, 4 holes and 2 dowels are different, the top ones will work.
I bolted a 460 to my diesel zf. After drilling.
blue original idi holes
pink idi dowels
green 460 bolts
brown 460 dowels
red 460 starter.
"I bolted a 460 to my diesel zf."
this was posted in an idi specific tech section.so one can only summize he meant "i bolted a 460 trans to my idi" ? lol.
you should know the gear ratios are not the same.-you can search this section, and find them each quite quickly.i just saw a recent thread with them posted again too.
looks like a very easy mod to me.id do it for sure if the price of the trans was right.
i guess the gas specific E40D (the 4 speed auto) doesn't have a good surface for this mod though.iv never seen a pic of it done for myself though.
but that zf5 sure looks solid and strong for bolts still to me!
