new tire question

I have a 2002 king ranch (supercrew shortbed). I am looking for recommendations for new tires and perhaps new wheels. Most of my driving is on road with some towing so I want some quiet. But I want a bad *** truck look too.

I want to go bigger than stock. I don't have a lift kit (yet). Does anyone have any tips on how big you can go with the stock wheels without rubbin?.

Also, what are the other options. I saw on trucksTV they put some weld stone crushers with some tire setup...but I forgot to take notes on the size. I gotta stop watching Trucks TV it gives me all kinds of time consuming frustrating yet cool ideas.

Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Phil

You are going to get lots of recommendations. Here are some that you should consider:

Michelin LTS M/S - Very quiet and smooth running, but not bad *** looking. Kind of expensive too. Longer dry stopping distances than I wanted.

Bridgestone Dueler A/T (and A/T Revo) - Good wet/dry handling and braking. Badder-*** looking. A little noisy on coarse pavement. (I had these on my SuperCrew. Great tire).

Dayton Timberline A/T - Good wet/dry handling and braking. Badder-*** looking. Inexpensive. (I have these on my '03 X. I like them as well as the Bridgestones). Can be hard to find. Only 3 Dayton dealers in all of Dallas-Fort Worth.

BF Goodrich Radial Long - Good wet/dry handling and braking. Milder-*** looking.

Go to:

www.tirerack.com

They have reviews and consumer opinions on most tires.

I think you be be able to fit some 31" x 11.5" with no problem even if you don't have a lift.

for a quet run and a Bad *** look. I would go with BF Goodrich All terrain A/T . It is a bit expensive but a really good tire.

If you need something cheeper. I've put some National Chapparal A/P tires on my truck. they are quiet and will last long milleage and they still give you that bad *** look. Of course my tires are 35"x12.5". they look more agressive

If I were you. Before investing on 31" tires. I would go bigger, maybe 33" or 35" and add a 3" body lift. A body lift is not that expensive. I would consider that.

That was a nice S. Crew on trucks wasn't it? The tires were 33x12.5's or 305-75's they're both the same size, just different ways to say it....I don't remember the rim size though--I would guess 16x8's (?)

Yes it was a nice truck! I am not sure I am up to the super charger. But I did install an ...Gibson and an intake.. air force one a chip...Diablo and have new MAF and throttle body spacers waiting. I am definetely thinking of a shaker hood and maybe the front grill too. Thanks for the tips on the wheels. Now I want to put a 6" lift kit and some bigger tires.

Thanks for the info and recommendations. I like the thought of the michelins and I saw a nice set of pirrelli (sp?) scorpions but not sure they make them in my size.

This truck bug is bad!

lol

Thanks again

Ford is shipping Pirelli's on new X's and I think SD. I have not seen any posts by anyone being overly impressed with the Pirelli's. Mostly negative.

It depends on the tire.. Pirelli has some great tires.. and some ok tires...

No one really likes goodyear RT/S either but most people say the MT/R is among the best mud tires.
