Tires for 97 F250 HD

I'm new to the site. I've been looking around for some tires for my 97 F250 HD 7.5 4X4 XL extended cab. I pull a fith wheel sometimes. Anybody have any recommendations for a all terrain tire in the cheap to mid price range? The truck is pretty much stock and I want to go with the stock tire size or slightly larger.

Hi, and welcome to the forum! I recently re-shoed my '96 ex.cab 4x4 with the factory recommended 235/85/16 and they're great on this truck. Perfect fit and stand a hair taller than the pizza cutters that were on the truck originally. I bit the bullet & went with Michelin LTX ...good looking tread design without being too aggressive.

My $.02.... Go to tirerack.com and search for the size you want, the choose the style you want and so on to narrow it down. Then check the rankings and read some reviews.

X2 Tons of good info on what's available and use the reviews/surveys to see how well they perform.

And when you go to tirerack.. I would HIGHLY recommend you look at the General Grabber AT2's! Great tire! You can't go wrong!

remember, if you are towing a fifth wheeler with it you want to get a heavy load range E or better tire. the cheaper load range C or D tires will get real scary real quick when towing heavy loads.

Agreed, used them exclusively on a variety of vehicles that required HD commercial tires and they always held up. Used to get 50k out of them easy too.

A good size is 285/75/R16, they aren't much larger than stock, will clear everything just fine and give the truck a tougher look. Thats what I am running right now.

any tire that ends up on a f250 or f350 has to be a lt load e , or it will cause huge load carrying and saftey issues! that said, at work we really like the bfg commerical ta , have alot of commerial guys use them on 4x4's as well as 2 wheel drives. good wearing too! pricing, whats cheap? most lt e load tires you wont find for less than 130-140 each

The 235/85/16's were stock on most of the 3/4 tons of these years. I have run those and the 285/75/16's. I like the looks of the 285 better but it seemed like they would get pulled into the grooves in the pavement easier. The main roads around here get grooves/ruts worn in them from studded tires and I always noticed the 235 tracked better. Seems like it should be the other way around but it wasn't. Definetely get an E rated tire. I don't notice any difference driving in snow other than I have to add a couple links in my chains for the bigger tires. It usually doesn't pay to buy too cheap of a tire.
