Posted this same question in the light truck, van area. I want to yank the 5.8L out of my 93 F-150 with the E4OD tranny, and swap in a fire breathing, carburated stroker 351W. I AM NOT WORRIED ABOUT THE SMOG FACTOR AT ALL. With that said what other problems can I expect to encounter. I'm mostly worried about the tranny's reaction and functioning guages. You may think it's crazy, but let's just pretend it's a good idea. Thanks in advance......
Sorry, my imagination's not THAT good - it's a bad idea. You'd be better off making your current engine a fire-breathing 5.8L , or even better, a fire-breathing MAF 5.8L!
Thanks Steve, do you have a close est. on how much the MAF conversion would cost me in parts? I'm sure I could do the labor myself. I have read a few things on this site and that conversion sounds like a nightmare!!! Any info is appreciated.
You have to do a lot of rewiring, but that's about it. Certainly less than I had to do to go from an '83 carb to a '95 EFI engine. I paid less than $1300 for EVERYTHING I needed (including all the accessories, Y-pipe, and even gas tank), so yours should be about that or less depending on how new an engine you buy. If you convert yours to MAF, you'll pay even less, but I think it would be harder to get it right.
I have a '96 MAF 5.8L for sale right now. PM or e-mail me if you're interested in it.
