no threads whatsoever on mine. not even any remnants. no big deal...
MY NEW PROBLEM is that when I hook it all up, my alternator light now flashes. is it supposed to flash? its not just a flicker, its a metered on-off flashing.
I hooked the yellow "A" wire to the charge cable lug, and the green and red "I" wire went to the green and red on the truck. the white "S" wire is on the alternator like factory. the 6ga black and red cable got a crimp style lug and went to the battery side of the starter solenoid through a 175A mega fuse.
I un-hooked my green/red "I" wire and the light went out. (obviously)
so why is it flashing? is it supposed to flash? is it getting confused from being fed voltage from both the green/red and yellow wires and flipping back and forth???? with the old setup it was solid... likewise im not gonna start it up until I know its not gonna blow up...
I tested the alternator at oreillys, its good 3 times in a row.

Reason: clarifying/ adding
If your putting a 130A alternator in with internal voltage regulator, don't hook the external voltage regulator up to it. leave the external regulator in place and the wires connected to everything but the new alternator. I took all the OEM wires and taped them up out of the way, and ran 8 gauge wire from the output lug of the alternator straight to the battery, with a fuse in line matching the amp rating of the max output of the alternator. the instrument lights are just a plug with 2 blades, everything else you don't need.
if one of you guys could do me a favor and post some pics for me, ill email them to you. (if pics would help) I read the FAQs thing on how to do it and I cant get it done..
I just ran my green/red stripe to ignition switch. The big one to the starter sol. You can catch a peek of the ground just to the right of the Alt. I ran it underneath the alt to make it look more simple.
come on guys, doesn't anybody know why the light flashes
I went back to the junkyard today and bought 2 more of these alternators. I had them tested and both were good also. I went home and hooked up both of them and the light did not come on at all. so I hooked up the original one I got again and it still makes the light flash...
I also got slip yokes for my AOD trannys. so I made out pretty good today...

That sounds to me like there is a diode out in the original one. But I can't imagine why that didn't show up when you had it tested.
I was thinking it was a diode problem, but yea it tested good 3x.
heres a different angle on the subject, is the light supposed to come on at all before start up????
I don't think so. Mine has gauges so I am not positive. You might PM HioSilver. I believe it was him wanting to put gauges in his dash that now has idiot lights.

well guys I solved the flashing light problem. I swapped in one of the other alts I got. I fired her up and shes putting out 13.95 volts at idle and she goes to 14.2 at 1500rpm. my headlights don't dim out anymore either.
the only dislike I have now is, since I only have one belt, its squealing at start up. so now im in the market for either a double belt kit or maybe a slightly larger pulley for the alt...
