Can everyone hear their transmission engaging, especially when you first start it and drop it in drive? Mine seems excessive and the rear linkage such as brakes or springs creek quite a bit even though my foot is on the brake when I shift. How is everyone elses, same sounds?
Depends upon how much load is on the trans when I shift out of Park. If I'm on a hill or pressed up against a curb, the "clunk" is pretty loud as I pull it out of park. Makes me flinch. If I'm on level ground, I hardly hear anything at all.
Yea, I'm familiar with the clunk when there's a load on it but when back out of the garage and put er in drive I hear the transmission engage and the rear linkage creek. I've been purposely listening with the window down and holding my foot on the brake. The sounds don't seem as bad when once the tranny is warmed up. Next time you guys get in ur rig leaving the house on a cold start, roll the window down on driver's side and leave your foot on the brake for a second or two and listen.
I think I know what you're describing. The whole truck kind of creaks forward as soon as you put it in gear. That only tells me that the torque converter is creating enough pressure to want the truck to go no matter what. In that case, the entire drive line will load up with only the rotor clamps keeping the rotation at zero. With such a heavy duty transmission, I wouldn't expect anything else though. I'll try to pay attention tomorrow morning.
Epic- that's what I was thinking. It doesn't bother me a whole lot per se, I've just not had a vehicle where it was this pronounced. Then again I've never had a super duty or anything with this much power lol.
I have the same thing but maybe more than you are saying. When I back up then shift into drive it would make a definite clunk, and yes don't even ask if I'm stopped, so I tried just from R into N. To my surprise it was clunking coming out of gear. It will do it sometimes when coming out of drive and into R but not as much.
It is much less now since the re-flash, before it was BAD but I knew the shifting was one of the items getting re-programmed so I waited. The issue I believe is too much torque being applied and the gears are actually still trying to pull even at idle.
I'm sure my dealer won't have a bloody clue but I'm going to bring it in anyway so they can run it up the pole at Ford.
