Downshift 1st gear 15 mph

Hey everyone, Just had my transmission and torque convertors replaced twice for an issue with a small bump or bang when my 1995 Ford Explorer downshifts, exactly at 15 mph. Ford says it must be the transfer case, but I find that a lil difficult. A friend stated that it has to be a module connected to the tranny telling it when to downshift, and it obviously is corrupted or bad. The symptons are, when slowing, at exactly 15 mph (signifying electronics maybe), the truck will abruptly shift to first with a bang or pop, then a motor sound or vibration will come through the brake pedal (you can hear and feel it), which he suggests is the anti lock sensing either a rear wheel lockup or a another symptom of the transmission. Anyone else have this or can suggest how I should proceed diagnosing this issue?

Thanks

Unless you have one of the few OBD-2 '95's, the transmission shifts are controlled by the EEC-IV (OBD-1) computer. You might try running the EEC-IV self-tests and see if the computer can see a problem. You might also get a good wiring diagram to see if you can see a fault in the wiring to the 1-2 shift solenoid.
Here's a test that might yield something (If the 4R44E is like my A4LD in this regard). Put the transmission selector in 2. I think this will prevent the transmission from shifting at all and lock it in 2nd gear. Then drive it up to 30 and slow back down below 15. If it clunks on the way down (and it really doesn't shift with the selector in 2), then it probably isn't related to the transmission shifting.
