Here is my problem the truck starts cold but but dosn't idle well for the first few seconds dosn't seem to want o stay on fast idle, but then runs fine. Temp gauge is normal,if i shut it off while warm and restart it 90% of the time the temp gauge will pin hot and warning light will go on for 5-30 seconds. Then temp shoots back to normal and warning light goes out and truck runs fine.Only one time has it stayed pinned hot for about 5 min and the truck ran terrable (limp mode I think) shut it off and restared it and ran fine and temp gauge normal.I did change all coils and plugs yesturday (saw a service bulliten that said a coil starting to go out can mess with the computer ans cause this) but still the same problem. I'm thinking Temp sensor. What do you guys think?
Most likely the sensor. When the computer thinks the engine is overheated it will put it in limp mode, or keep on idle only.
For specific answers you might want to go to the section that talks about your engine.
well it looks like I have to change the cylinder head temp sensor,I've read that you have to remove the intake to get at it. It looks like if I remove the alt. I could reach it, does anyone know for sure and how big of a job is it to remove the intake if need be. 2001 f250 5.4
