I just bought a 1986 bronco XL from a friend of mine and the catalyst sticker on the front says that is a 5.0L engine. I pluged in the VIN number in carfax.com and it says its a 5.8L H.O.
Is there any way that I can tell for sure which one I have? some one told me that it is stamped on the block but I cant find it. The motor was rebuilt about 40k miles ago and it has a 4bbl holley on it HELP!!!
If the engine is original, then the 8th digit of the VIN should be N for 302ci/5.0L; H for 351W/5.8L. Here is the definitive site for IDing Ford engines.

the vin number shows a 351 but is there a way that I can know for sure before I go and buy the wrong parts? I think he may have put a different engine in it.
Measure the width of your intake. A 302 intake is approximately 9 inches wide, while the 351 is about 11. Sorry I don't have the exact measurements, but this should be close enough for you to tell. I hope this helps.
If you would read my first post about measuring the intake, you would realize the ruler statement was not sarcasm. The easiest way to determine if an engine is a 302 or a 351 is with a ruler/tape measure.
Dude, you will find out real quick that attitude like yours will not get anywhere around here. People will not repsond to you when you act......... well............ 16.
