I have a 1977 F150 short box 4x4 with the 300 I6 and 4 speed manual trans. I was considering adding the Clifford intake, Weber 38 2 brl carb, headers, X pipe and dual exhaust combo. Has anyone added these items to there rig? I would like some feedback as to whether it is a good combo, and if the gains are as great as stated by Clifford Performance.
I have the Hedman header and dual exhaust on my '79 with a 300 and C6 automatic. There are pictures in my gallery. I'm really happy with how it turned out, but the header was a pain to install. I had to reroute the transmission lines as well as one brake line; I also had to switch to a mini-starter because the standard-size starter can't be removed with the header in place. I also had to shave down the alternator/smog pump bracket (I don't run the smog pump anymore, so I just cut off the top half of the bracket and smoothed it down to fit).
Installing it was a pain as well; I had to remove the passenger-side motor mount and hold the engine up with my cherry picker to place it, and even then it was a challenge to wiggle it in place. Overall a very challenging installation.
I'm running an Offenhauser DP instake and an Edelbrock 1403 carburetor - I'm really happy with those, although the throttle linkage was a challenge as well. In general, the throttle linkage can be hard to set up when doing any kind of upgrade, because of the carburetor's orientation on a straight six. Well worth it though. No idea about the Clifford stuff; as stated the straight six forum would have more info.
