i just put a 360 out of a mid 70s truck in a 71 model. ive already got the t-18 tranny in it and am just now trying to install the y pipe or crossover pipe. im having trouble getting it to go on there. is there any trick to this or is there anything special i have to do?
i just got through doing this. My pickup had a bad clutch and headers, i first replaced the clutch then took out the header because i wanted the quiter stock system.
I got the replacement stock exhaust system from a wrecking yard and it the original factory piece the ford installed. The way i got it in was by taking the engine out and installing it then. I tried taking the transmission back out but the pipe only hit the bottom of the cab. i also tried jacking the pickup up and jacking the engine up and turn the wheels and could not get it in.
I thought maybe i had they had given me the wrong exhaust system, so i brought back too them and they insisted it was it. And they told also that napa sells a two piece y pipe that you can install without jacking the engine up. But i decided on going the low cost route (only cost me 60 dollars).
But if you don't want to do that much work try checking into a 2 piece y pipe.
thats what i was afraid of. i just got the engine and transmission in ands it really hard to do when you dont have an engine puller. i may get the 2 piece pipe or may just try and run dual exhaust on it
