I just bought a f150 for 100$ its a 360 4 speed 4wd. Its going to be a winter truck that has to go through deep snow but it has one catch, the front end is pushed back 4". I've seen a lot of sheetmetal bumpers and was wondering how thick they are .120" sounded good but just wanted a second opinion.
Mainly its going to see snow but now I'm leaning towards .225-.250 with a prerunner hoop because my bud just hit an elk and I never noticed how hefty of an animal they are until now. Any idea how much that would weigh in at? Anyone else have similar bumper?
I built a skidplate for my f-350 out of 3/16 the width of the framerails back to the crossmember underneath the engine and wraps up over the front of the framerails. i didnt weigh it but guessing its close to 50 lbs. a full bumper might be 2-3 times that. but i wouldnt make it out of anything less if your going to use it. a lot of rockcrawlers make skidplates out of 3/16. 1/8 just seems like it would bend too easy but might work.
On my 76 the bumper is made from 3/8'' cold plate with 1/2'' frame supports and 3/8'' boxed frame all the way under the cab and 3 frame stiffeners to support the bumper then i used heavy 3/16'' DOM tubing to make the brush guard. I think after all said and done it weighs in about 280-340 lbs.
