hi, im new to this site. I recently got a 69 ford f-100. The engine is a 360 but not really good, so ive decided to take a 5.0 that i have and try to toss it in. I just wanted some advice on what I would need to do to make it fit and work.
ok i think a 5.0 is a more modern 302. if not it is a 351
if you live in a smog controlled area you need all smog parts plus the below.
engine transmission driveline. motor mounts. if it is a 302 then you need transmission mounts as well since a 302 doesn't power through a c6 very easy. if it is a 351 then the c6 will be passable.
If you want more power add the 390 I went to the 427 my self With 4spd and spool rear end..shes fun and fast..it will bolt right in same bell housing motor mounts all good All brackes will work All FE moters will swap out..you can wake up that old 360 with a hot cam and more timing..good luck bill
Yes a 360 is just a detuned 390..They were trying to make a polution moter..You can look around for a 390 to build Im running the much larger 427 heads..Im not shure how good your heads are..maybe someone will let you know if you post more inf. about the 360...bill
I took the truck to a shop this week and found out the 360 is good. The mechanic told me it was fine. He said it just needs a good carb. He said it was a motor with little acceleration but with some great torque.
I know there is at least one 390 crank and rod set for sale in the marketplace, but I'm pretty happy with my 360. It's not stock, pulls a heavy trailer at 65 all day and has done that twice now, 9000lbs plus 800-1000lbs in the bed for 14hrs straight. Of course, it only gets 7mpg towing, and a whopping 12 cruising around empty.
The 360 has a lot of potential, it's just very often overlooked because of it's big brother, and because most examples are 35+ years old so they're pretty well worn.
