Just installed my guages the other night. Boost, exhaust temp, and water temp....On the way home my water temp never hot above 160 degrees. Now i have to ask, why do you guys run a 203*? Wouldnt cooler be better?
160* is way to cool to run diesel engines long term. Our engines run on heat and not spark plugs. If you ever get it up to 200* + you will know what I'm referring to. Timing is completely different and overall performance is better.
kris in these trucks the key is a hot block and cold air, the warmer the water temp the better the ignition in the cycles like jim said, it will perform a little better. it takes a LONG time to get up too 100% operating temperature in these, the dummy guages dont tell an accuarate reading. and for the cold air, since its been cold out lately havent you noticed a bit of power? i sure have! lit 3d gear both tires just from a roll in 60t!!
colder air in cylinder temps results in a more efficient burn, hence adding an intercooler! allows for more top end performance. my truck pulls slightly longer on top than it did before. but i say you put on that grille cover you made and do a road test to see the before and after on water temp bet youll see a difference!
