What can I expect to pay for a '03 lightning w/o any options? I am pretty knowledgeable when it comes to buying new cars but I know that anything with an SVT badge on it doesn't apply to the same rules that the other cars apply to. What would invoice be? Can I get away with paying invoice on an SVT? If I can't get away with invoice, what would be a good deal?
Most dealers get sticker or sticker-plus for SVT products. We're a one-price dealer, and we discount them $500 from sticker. You definitely want to shop around, maybe even a few hundred miles from where you live. You might hit a dealer with several in stock that's willing to deal a bit. A few years ago (pre-'97), Lightnings were a dime a dozen, and you could buy them for close to invoice, but I doubt you'll find that today. They're definitely in tighter supply- we've already sold out our allocation for the year, so I'm afraid I can't help you there. Good luck!
Thanks for the info but I have one question. What would you consider to be "several in stock?" I ask because the dealership that is closest to me has five of them in stock.
Thanks Mark!!! I have been playing games for the last week with the guys at the dealership. I am only 21 yrs old so there is no way in hell that I NEED this truck but since I work my @$$ off at work I can afford it and thought it would be fun to have. They finally caved at the dealership and gave me $1500 off msrp. I owe it all to you. Now I can't wait to break in the engine so I can really open her up. Parts already ordered and on the way to my house- Full Bassani exhaust and Diablo Delta chip.
That's great, especially since Lightnings are in short supply, at least around here. We've sold out our allocation, which means I can't get one for the rest of the year. If most other dealers are in the same boat, then you certainly would have paid sticker or above. Good luck, and enjoy it!
P.S. Don't you think the FIRST accessory on that baby should be a radar detector?
The radar detector is a good idea but I don't plan on abusing the ability to go 145mph or 0-60 in 6 seconds. I did not however overlook the idea of other people driving my truck i.e. valet parking, family member, etc. I had the 3rd setting on my Diablo Delta chip programmed exactly like the 92 octane performance setting with the exception of the top speed setting being 25mph and the revlimiter being set to 2000rpm's. I think that others might find it frustrating to drive my truck, yeah? If you have any suggestions on break in period let me know. I already had the dealership install Ford's factory remote start so that the engine will always be up to proper temp before I go ANYWHERE.
