inability to move forward on my projects, making me read the forums more and more....
That is the problem in a nutshell. I am the same way. I get aggravated at myself plenty of times. Branch out of this area for awhile. I just kinda float around in them. It is nice to get knowledge from people with year specific info, but looking and reading on the older stuff before these and the stuff after these, helps put things in perspective. I have never been on a forum. I do enjoy this one, however it does get some dull spots. I also like to joke, others think it should all be serious info only. Take a break and check back in. When you hit a rough spot on your build we will repeat ourselves for you.
Maybe I am just letting some of these posts get to me. I think I would be less hostile, if a poster's first post was to introduce themselves and not to ask a question that is answered in the first page of the forum.
I never saw an introductory thread on here. Thatd actually be a neat idea. Other forums Iv been on had them and its nice because you learn what the people are like in the forum before you start askin redundant qs and at times your able to point the person in the right direction before it even becomes an issue
While I agree that it can be irritating to se the same seven questions asked by folks with low post counts, I'd like to offer the following;
Another site I'm a member of is DYING because they grant special status to long time members who act like pi**y old women to those who don't know the "rules".
I remember when I was a forum noob. I did all the same crap that's pi**ing us off, and prolly more. I remember that the search function was pretty daunting and I had a hard time using the right "lingo" required in the search; I didn't know what a part was called, but I was desperate to fix my rig.
I suggest that many of these noobs are experiencing the same thing, and deserve better from all of us than to be told "search is your friend".
Remember, we were all noobs once (except Franklin-seems like he's been around before dirt was invented ), and these noobs become valuable members. Eventually, they start sharing information they've learned with others.
I've noticed that there are excellent resources in the stickies, and I got a lot out of them when I finally READ them. Of course, someone pasted the url into a reply to someone else before I did. Go figure. Maybe WE could search FOR them, and paste the search into a reply.
Just a friendly suggestion to all.
PS no offence meant to pi**y old women, members with special status, or members with high post counts.
I used to be bothered by the same old questions over and over, then one day I was searching for something I really had very little clue about, it got me thinking ... The constant same old questions no longer bother me.
If you don't know what to search for how do you search!
As for Stosh, I didn't like the way he spoke to some either, though coming from me thats calling the kettle black, I do not always pick my words wisely ... however Stosh did have useful knowledge to share and he definitely was not into hacking things, neither am I.
I just want to say that sometimes I believe that you can learn more about something by teaching someone else how to do it, rather than by doing it yourself.

I have been a member of the Forum for a while..I will be the first to say that my '84 F-150 is greatly improved because of the help and knowledge of the members....Stosh included. He can be a bit abrasive at times..(who can't)...but..I NEVER had a problem with anything I bought from him..I would say that the majority of questions being asked have been addressed at least partially in the past..and a few minutes in the "search" column is usually helpful...C'mon guys...this is just a forum about old trucks..don't take it so seriously...Worry about the upcoming MIDTERMS instead...Go Tea Party !!!
I don't miss stosh's attitude one bit. His knowledge was nice but didn't outweigh his negative comments. I always feel better to just show them where to go to find the answer because I got yelled at really badly when I joined a forum for SHOs and I hated it and promised I would never knowingly do that to someone.
As for me, if there is a repeatedly asked question and I am feeling in a pissy mood, I will just pass it over. I used to be a hard core Chevy guy (still am to a point), and needed major help with Ford stuff as I was fresh to them. I posted in here, sometimes with stupid questions, and found a wealth of information. People were nice for the most part and really helped me. I have had very little luck when I use search (could also be user error), and people here have still been real helpful. I recently posted a question about fuel mileage with a Diesel. After I posted it, I realized it had been likely covered countless times before, but I was in a bit of a rush when I posted it and even if I had been thinking, would have still not have had time to do a search. I was waiting for the replies telling me to search, but thankfully got none.
Someone also mentioned courtesy. When I am reading new persons first post, and they give no introduction, go right into the question, and then do not even thank you, I tend to pass over it, even if I have some input. Everyone here is sharing to help each other and no one is getting paid or anything. Just be respectful and thank them.
As for Stosh, you are only as good of a teacher as your presentation. He had some great information, but put it out poorly and pissed a lot of people off.
