cruise control

the cruise controll on my 95 f-150 isn't working anymore. It started off by just not being as aggressive in keeping the speed, and now it barely holds the speed i want it to at all on flat ground. I know there is a sensor is that what needs replaced or can i tighten a cable up or something.

I dont know when ford stopped using metal vacum cans for the cruise control, but that might be the problem. They looks like big soup cans and are located on the topof the inner fender.
Hope this helps.

Yeah, it holds vacum for the cruise. On our old bronco it crushed when I took it off and when replaced the cruise kicked in a lot better. We got replacements at ford for something like $18.00.

That holds vacuum, but I don't think it will hold enough for anything but emission controls. Just the size of the tubing, and where it comes from, has no relation to the cruise control, I could be wrong, but that's a lot of vacuum to be running through those tiny plastic tubes. If you have a vacuum servo for the cruise control (some people say some are electronic, I have no experience with that), it will be drivers side, right about at the hood spring. You can check that, and the vacuum lines going to and from the servo. There is probably a vacuum line going through the firewall to a valve on the brake pedal. Check for vacuum leaks first. And you can still check the soup can, but I don't think that would affect your cruise control.

The coffee can is ONLY for the EGR & the thermactor air (smog pump & cat) systems. '93-up uses an electronic cruise servo, so it's not a vacuum problem.

They're still using that servo on all current Ford vehicles and you can find them on some cars as old as '90 (I think). The servo is the same, but the cable (which can be changed with no tools) is specific to the application. First, get a Haynes manual and check out the wiring diagram for the system. You might have a bad brake pressure switch (screwed into the front of the master cylinder with the wires pointing up - they're known to go bad) or some other simple electrical problem.
