over heating & stalling

My 1990 7.3 starts fine and idles fine for about 10 minutes and then the gage goes to hot. If I accelerate the needle goes down to cool but then back to hot. The water in the radiator is cool. Does it have a t-stat or water pump problem?

sounds like a thermostat issue but usually they die open. could be a blockage of gunk, how clean is the rad when you look in the neck of the radiator? All scaled and messy or clean metal? It could be a gauge issue as well, get a mechanical on there and you might just find you have a bad sending unit, or short or, or...etc etc. Get the idea? mech gauge is like 25-45 bucks, very low budget and easy to install.

It was clean but I did a radiator flush anyway.

Could be a bad ground for the dash gauges. Did you notice your other gauges all go nuts at the same time? Then all go to normal after a little while?

I ran a temp grounding cable with no change. After running a while the needle goes all the way to hot the engine light is on and sometimes the parking brake light is on. Then I rev it up and all the gages go to normal as long as it's reved up. The water in the radiator is cool even when the heater is hot.

Thanks for any advise.

If you flushed it without changing the thermostat you might have pushed gunk up into it.

This sounds like more of an electrical issue tho, grounds to be exact. I would start cleaning every ground I could find and checking for shorts.
