Thanks AGAIN guys, with all the mods after my warrenty my truck is more reliable and I learned a great deal on repairing the short falls. Not to mention performing my own regular maintenence. Thanks
is that a ford part # or what website did you get yo mod kit from.
and what do you think about adding a BB instead I heard someone here say you could do that to pump up the presure

This is the ford part #: 3C3Z-9T517-AG.
IMHO a BB is perfectly acceptable however you have to realize it's just a shim. If you can afford the $$ for the kit then go that way.
My truck was out of warranty so that wasn't an issue, but I figured the kit with a new spring would yield the correct pressure, whereas the BB may or may not, depending on how weak or strong my old spring was.
if you dont mind me asking........... what did it do for you ? what was the problem you were have ( in detail ) that made you want to replace the fuel spring ?
thanks
No offense Tim but if you lose an injector because of too much pressure I don't think Daisy will cover it for a defective BB. Mike
No offense taken Mike. I have yet to see the BB mod go over 65psi. Not saying it won't but it works for a good "diagnostic" tool. You have to have a damn good stock pump to get to 75 psi. I usually have to stretch the old stock spring in addition to the BB to even get 62, but I do use a fuel pressure gauge when I put them in, and I've put in several. If it doesn't do anything then I know something else is wrong. Again, diagnostic tool is the key word, not necessarily a full time mod.

Chad, I don't mind at all. The only thing I'm certain that it did was give me a little peace of mind. I didn't have a fuel pressure gauge at the time, and I was not having any fuel system issues that I knew of. But my truck's pushing 7 years old now and I like doing preventative maintenance things to it when I can. This was a relatively cheap and easy preventative maintenance job on a critically important system of the truck, so I did it. Did I need to? I'll never know...such is the nature of preventative maintenance.
just asking because im trying ti trouble shoot some issue my truck is having
just started have a minor miss ( when cold )
and hard start when Hot ( not all the time ) excessive cranking to start
the more i look at it the more it looks like a HPO system leak than a fuel spring issue .
I have 134 k on motor and Im sure the fuel reg spring is weak by now so i may do that anyway.
I also drop alternator every 2 years like clock work
My 05 6.0 has had more than its fair share of issues- and I am known as a perpetual 6.0 basher after my multiple dealer experiences in the 5 years I have owned it.
However, with similar symptoms as you describe and with a freshly expired warranty, I decided to try a few things. I had blue smoke on start up, cold hezitation. Long cranks at random times. The most recent dealer repair included 4 injectors replaced with little change in symptoms.
I changed oil (always used 5-40 synthetic). I changed fuel filters (found upper one quite crushed and the last people in there was the dealer). I decided to try the bb mod after reading several warranty visit reports that my fuel pressure was low, but "should" be ok after they blessed it with their wizardry.
Truck started ok and still had the same symptoms I was quite familier with. But within 100 miles I had a check engine light and surging. I have NEVER had a CEL in the years I have owned this truck and have had MANY problems. O'reillys loaned me a code reader and it showed low injector circuit pressure. I thought for sure it was the bb mod, but every forum posting pointed to check the ICP sensor. I ordered a new one. Replaced it. The pickup has NEVER run this good. It is truly amazing. I wonder how long the ICP was "going bad"? No more blue smoke. No more weird bucking. Just starts up and runs like a swiss watch. I can't belive it.
Moral to story- check your fuel pressure and it is worth chasing down any issues related to it. I don't know if my fix was the bb mod, or the icp, or a combination, but I am very happy.
Well i had the ICP replaced about 30-35 k back when it blew out going down the road and i lost all of my engine oil in about 3 miles.
its a good thing it shuts you down when it sees no oil pressure.
that doesnt mean it cant be going out eletricaly ?
But i am ording a Fuel pressure gauge to check it out
Hey 69cj, Just did a fuel pressure mod with the blue spring. My pressures went from 49 psi to 70 psi. Did I assemble something wrong? The posts I read said between 10-15, not 20? What is the pressure directly from the pump? Concerned that I may have too much for the injectors. I have a 6.0 2004.
BTW - I have the bb and it works great. Normally I would prefer the OEM part, but when I was doing the work I could not get the part, so in went a bb. Fuel pressures are great!
