Thanks for the info. I did not know that I had the wrong Rancho 9000 shocks on my new SD. I thought if it fit on my old F350 it would fit on my new SD. It looks like there are different part numbers for these two different year models. So I guess I will replace the shocks first and see how it rides. Worst case, I can remove a leaf and see how it all works out.
Sounds like a plan. All this has me thinking about removing the 3rd leaf to smooth the ride out, I rarely have much load in the truck and I have the overloads anyway for when I do.
Yea, me too with air bags. My first priority is ride quality, then next is hauling capacity. So with my overload spring, and air bags, I should have more than enough hauling capacity even with the 3rd spring pulled out. All I need to buy is the in cab air compressor for my air bags to make it easy to adjust on the fly. Also, I will need to get a 1" spacer block for the back so my ride height does not change from where it is now..
My only regret at having done it is that now I want to do the front.... And I'd rather buy other toys than a set of bags for the front!
I have multi-leaf mild lift springs in the front. Not sure if the stock pack has a removable leaf in the front...
The stock front pack is only two leafs with a military wrap, so I wouldn't recommend removing one. I went with Icon 4" lift springs, 12 leaves, and they ride much better than the stock 2-leaf pack.
Ok guys we are driving trucks not cars , so if you going to try to make your unloaded truck to ride softer, you need to dampin the unsprung weight. In our cases the best and ( not cheepest ) easest wound be to install a set of Kelerman or Revtec air suspention and a good set of adjustable shocks ,and get rid of the leaves all together. As to the front with the weight of the oil burner hanging up there, I found go with a good aftermarket soft ride spring up front like ( Super Lifts soft rides or Rubicon Express soft springs ) and put on a set of Bilsteins or adjustable shocks .
I have a 99 250 with 350 suspension. Reg cab.. Rides like hell. Always bouncing all over the road. I also have the 35 inch BFG AT KO's and brand new Rough Country Shocks.. The new shocks helped a little but this truck needs more... Really interested in these Sulastic shocks. Wanting to see if anyone can tell me how the Sulastic springs work out long term.. Will the rubber crack or dry rot much like an unused tire??
