So I got this 6.0 intercooler from my dad and I was thinking of installing it in the truck in my sig. what else will I need to get it in there? besides the spyder & pipes. will it really fit between the grill and the radiator? it doesnt look like it. what kind of power gains should I expect? what does it do for MPGs? truck is completely stock. I have seen write ups on replacing the coolers in 99 and up trucks that already have them but not mine.
Somewhere around here someone did a great write up for the OBS, I will look now that I am curious, LOL!
No real power gains or milage improvement really.. What its greatest benefit is, are lower EGT's! That in itself is more then enough of a benefit that I will be taking on that one myself too!
mine fit in between like it was ment to be. you have to take your time and take off the front bumper, lights, grill and valance to get it down to the very front flip and cut the radiator support like this
then it fits in there all nicely
and almost together
get ahold of any superduty pipes 99+-03 will work nicely, the dirver side will fit right in for the most part and the passenger side needs to be lighley modded depending on what you do for a spider pipe. if you get a early 99 spider it will be much cleaner here is my design before its was all finished and ground down and painted.
if you go threw with this, get the silicone boots on the intercooler first!!!!!! putting them on first while installing the intercooler will save you an hour and a bunch of frustration. putting them on after, while making the pipes, oh man i hated my self.
there is zero boost in power, you loose about 2~4lbs of boost, did not help or hurt my mileage. What i did get in return was a HUGE reduction in EGTS, i had stage 2s and wow thoes temps rose fast, now they incrementally rise up and stay around 1200° on a hot run, very managable now.
