found a Intercooler on craigslist. Came out of an 2002 Excursion 7.3. The guy wants 40$ for it..Will it fit my 97 F-250 and what will i need for pipes? Thanks
Ya it will fit, I'm assuming its the same as a pickup one, easiest pipes to use are off of a super duty 7.3, but you'll still have to mod them. I got a third one so it was easier to cut and patch them together. Also some pipes are aluminum and some are steel so if you are going to do any welding keep that in mind, carry a magnet to check them before you buy them somewhere
Yeah, it should fit just fine. The IC between the SD trucks and Ex should be the same thing. Buy it up! You will need pipes for an SD 7.3L PSD and an E99 spyder.
Should i search for used pipes or does someone sell them new?
As mentioned above buy it NOW I think its a very good deal if the IC is in good condition (no leaks).
They are some sellers that sell the pipes but are expensive, best is make your own with the SD7.3 pipes or buy some sort of pipes: 90, 45 degrees, etc and weld them or use boots between pipes.
You also needs other things like the reduction boots for the spyder/plennum, new marmon clamp and a reduction boot to the IC to the pipe in one side IIRC (3 TO 3.25")
For $40 I would jump all over it and I would build my own pipes, here is a thread I found which is how I plain on doing my set up this winter during college break. The reason I would build them from scratch rather than modify SD pipes is because I have seen lots of pics of guys doing this and it looks like crap trying to make SD pipes work. 6.0L intercooler install in '92-'96 body
It's really not that hard to modify the sd pipes. It won't look like crap if you can lay a couple welds and/or hook up a couple boots. Either way works though, build your own if you wish.
Yup it will fit fine.
It is a good deal too.
But the 6.0 cooler cools better. But for the price I would snag it, install it and swap it out IF you find a 6.0 cooler cheap.
Neal, do you know if the mounting points of the 6.0 IC and the 7.3 IC are the same? I've been thinking about grabbing up a 6.0 IC, but don't really want to mess with changing my mounts up. I'm pretty sure they are different.
Ryan, It really is easier to just use the SD pipes than to start from scratch. Anyone can butcher the job either way you try it, but if you pay attention and try to do good work, that is what you will get, good looking pipes. Do mine look all that bad?

Travis, I add a pic of the 7.3 and 6.0 ICs (with plastic tanks, I dont know what you have) maybe helps to you for comparison.
And also attached a couple of pics of my set up, I use in the hot side a SD pipe without any mod, and in the cold side I used parts of a 2004 6.0 IC pipes, cutting and hooked up with boot

Those look really good, besides being blue they look factory.
Those pipes came off a '99 model Ryan and underwent a couple small modifications. not a butchered job like you have seen around the net. lol
Jose, thanks for posting that pic. I can tell that the 6.0 IC won't fit with the way I have my 7.3 IC set up right now. I would have to make new mounts.. Maybe I will just switch to a DI 7.3 IC down the road. Your IC pipes look nice too Jose.

yeah, you don't want to buy any of these parts from Ford. Heck, just for grins look up how much a new 17* HPOP is from a 2000 model SD and also the throttle pedal assembly for a '95 OBS vs a '97. Those 2 parts will make you wanna slap the guy at the parts counter. lol Last time I checked the throttle assembly for a '95 OBS was a bit more expensive than the HPOP
