drum won't go back on

68 f100 pulling to the right a couple of weeks after replacing shoes on front right. left rear sqeaking when i apply brakes. today i thought i would replace the brake shoes on the left.

the shoes that match the right ones wouldn't align - springs wouldn't go into the hole, so i put the old ones back on. NOW the drum won't go back on.

what am i doing wrong?

thanks

It is always best to do your drum drakes one side at a time. You can look at the other side as you go to make sure you have them installed correctly. You may have both rear pads on the same side or vice versa. Have you tried adjusting the pads in with the star at the bottom of the shoes?

If you didn't rebuild the wheel cylinders and by pushing the piston deeper into the cylinder will only end up giving you troubles sooner or later.. By 1. leaking cyl gets on lining =pulls to one side or #2. gummed up sticking piston in cyl= shoe dragging or brake over heats and locks up drum.. There is a front primary shoe & a rear part is called the secondary shoe. NOTED mostly by the the lining length okay, Shortest length goes up front as Primary. Longest lining length= secondary shoe. If brake shoe lining is not installed correct This may be your problem with pulling. Turn drums to match any uneven wear. Drums must be the same size in front or it will pull to one side. The same goes for the rear, it can also make it want to pull if you have a different size drum on the back. Front and back don't have to be the same size, just in pairs off thou! my 2cents
