Engine oil leak

Greetings MO FTE people.

I live in Waynesville, MO and am having trouble finding a mechanic who works on old Fords. I own a 1978 F-250 with a 400 cid engine. The Jasper rebuilt engine has less than 5000 miles on it and it leaks around the rear of the intake manifold. Any suggestions as to where I may locate a shop and skilled mechanic to repair the leak?

Any assistance is appreciated.

i would say the cheapest thing to do would be go buy a new gasket, remove the entire intake and replace all the gasket with the new one, bolt and torque the intake back down, wallah! your done!

Engine oil leak

Thank for the suggestion. The only thing stopping me for doing this is the fact that I am 70 years old.

Welcome, Jack.

Please refresh my memory...where is Waynesville again?

I know a few folks in KC that could help out, but don't remember how far away that is for you...

Waynesville is a small community outside Fort Leonard Wood. Another way to look at it is that the town is 130 miles West of St. Louis and 100 miles East of Springfield on I-44.

I am guessing who ever put the intake on last time they used the worthless rubber "S" seal's (on front and rear) that always leak. RTV and proper torque sequence IMO

Maybe you could get the auto craft shop at Ft Lenardwood to do it? Sorry I don't know anyone there.

Ask around the parts stores for some local mechanics with a good reputation and references. Beats going to an auto shop blind about there capabilities.

oil leaks

Guys - this reply is almost 3 years late - but I want to tell you that your refereral to a technician that works on old Ford trucks was the answer to my oil leak problems. Vince noted that the engine installers failed to get a good seal on the valve covers and this was the cause for one of the leaks. I had to pay for the fix as the installers were located in Wyoming. Next he put some dye in the oil and that showed that there was another leak coming from the rear main of my new rebuilt Jasper engine. Well long story short Vine replaced the rear main and Jasper picked up most of the costs as the engine was still in warranty. Three years later and the ole Ford does not have any oil leaks - nice.

Thanks - Ford Truck Enthusiasts - and the Missouri Chapter for the assistance.

Dr. Jack
