bell houseing

Hi I'm stopping at the v6 board cause I can't find answers. I have a bell for a v6 or so I'm told. starter on the passenger side and a big square hole on the drivers side, This was sold to to fit a 2.8 171 but I don't believe it is right and I can't find what it is really for. Any help will be appreciated
Joe

It for a 2.9/4.0..........the bolt pattern will be OK, but the starter is on the wrong side. Take it back.

The bolt pttrn is to big and the starter is on wrong side. I believe (by the numbers) it came from a 79 mustang (D9ZC6394EA) prob 3.8 maybe? I can't get any closer than that for an application but it's not for a 2.8 for sure Thanks

Not to confuse the issue but the 79 Mustangs did come with the 2.8L v6. The 3.8L I6 came a bit later, I think 1981 or 82.

2.8 was very common in 79-80 Mustangs, 200 3.3L I6 was used as well.
I believe you are right, 3.8 V6 came in in 81 or 82.

Thanks Gents,
That said does anyone have one to sell? I thought it was easy to find but I've been banging my head against the wall finding one. I keep getting the 3.8 offers when I list the 78 so I went down to 76 the same offers come in. Don't know if they have no idea of what they have or don't care and just want to catch some one off guard. Sure would like to end the search and get on with the project..
Thanks Joe

bell

I have found the bell, now I am trying to find out if the 171 2.8 85 capri takes a harmonic balancer or just a pully on the crank. putting the v6 in something else and have to find all the pieces. But I don't know if it needs one or just the pully set.
Thanks Joe
