i have an 87 b2, will it run without the o2 sensor, as im thinking of dual exhaust and straightpipes, and dont want to have to mess with mounting 2 o2 sensors...?
im sure it will run..but i dont know how well.. sorry im of little help.. i know you can get dummy plugs that fool it to run right.. dont know if this helps.
i tried to replace mine and it actually snapped in half...ran it for about 4 months without it and did not notice a differance before replacing the exhaust system
Sure it will run. Without input from the o2 sensor the ECU goes into open loop mode and stays there, operating the EFI system on a fixed set of values rather than accepting input from the various sensors. It will usually run pretty well in open loop, but it tends to run the fuel mixture a bit rich to compensate for the lack of sensor input and this can not only hurt your mileage but can also destroy your cats by dumping raw fuel into them which is then burnt in the cats by the hight temps there, causing them to run even hotter and then eventually melt. Far better to run the o2 sensor that the system was designed for. It's very easy to buy an o2 sensor bung from a muffler shop, tap into the pipe and weld it in.
And BTW, even if your state or locality has no emissions checks, removing your cats or tampering with the emissions system in any way (which includes removing the o2 sensor) is against Federal law. Your chances of getting caught? Probably slim, but still existent.
just to clarify, i was replacing the glovebox light and found a connector unplugged. i plugged it in and my check emissions idiot light lit up. was wondering how it would run if the o2 sensor was out cause i dont know how long the thing was unplugged, and if it would make a radical performance change. o2 sensor is still plugged in according to federal specs.
