Correct 60's Engine Gold
I just built my 2bbl 360 to a 390 bored .030 and added a mild cam.
I have painted the entire engine black in my school booth and am planning to mask off the raised "Powered By Ford" valve cover letters leaving them black and painting the covers and air cleaner Gold.
My question is, what is the correct Ford Engine Gold?
I have heard it varies throughout the years but I am looking for the correct gold that the engines were painted before they all went to Ford Blue.
I have found a color called Casitialn Gold but im not sure if it is correct.
We use PPG paints here at the college, so if anyone is familiar with them please let me know.
I think the black/gold early 60's combination will really give my 68 Ranger a good look!
--If you are putting gold letters on black valve covers, it doesn't matter what gold you use, because that was never the way Ford did it.
--unless you have no hood, no one will see it.
--if they do see it, they will wonder why you don't have a hood.

If it were me, I'd paint the valve covers black or at least the area around the raised letters, a nice two or three coats.
Then spray them completely gold.
Then, wet-sand just the lettering with like 1500 grit on a semi-hard block until the black shows. Done right (and with lots of patience), it might look better than just masking the letters, and would certainly be easier
