Assiting a buddy with putting a 78 Bronco back together; he decide to replace the 351 with a 460 C/6 combo; Will the factory engine perches work with this application? ( Or aftermarket the only option?
Never dealt with a bronco before.
thanks in advance!
Thanks for the replies; just needed to know before painting the 351 perches etc; will check on after market conversion; TCI etc.
Truck is going from stock 351 to a 9" lift, 460 mildly built ; changing gears from 3:55 to 4:10's; hes' going to be running 39" Mickey's Baja I beleive.
Myself & a Fellow FTE member (Tatonka 04) are putting the rig back together and hopefully we'll post some pic's soon. Prior to us recieving the truck; its been frame off resto with rhinoliner floor & under cab; body two tone yellow & white stripe to match owner's ski boat. Just needs to be put back together completely. Plumbing, wiring, dash, interior; drive train; changing suspension bolts to grade (8) etc.
Again thanks.
I agree with ya; but owner; is just currently trying to complete this build after being stagnic for 3 plus years; I'm more worry with the 9" lift than the axle strenght myself.
not that i am a big fan of body lifts but in this situation i would run a 6" suspension and a 2" body lift. this will help keep COG low. also you can do a little fender trim to help. those tires are very wide and will put a great deal of stress on the front end components. dont be suprised if it requires some attention 6months to a year down the road
I agree; but its not my ride. I can only influence and provide my comments and safety concerns to owner. I feel a six inch lift without body lift would clear; but I've never owned a bronco yet!

For reference purposes, here's a pic of my old 78 Bronc at one of the mud runs. It had a 460 swap, with a mild cam and holley added, other than that the motor was stock. D44/9" axles with 3.55 gears. No problems with the rear, altho doing runs like the one in the pic did munch a couple stub shafts, LOL! The tires were 38" Swampers and I had a 4" Tuff Country lift, front coils and rear F250 springs with a add a leaf. Never had any problems with clearance and the driveshaft levels were alot more friendly. FWIW, I did the swap/lift back in 90 and drove it all over the place (highway, back woods, rock crawling, and mud races) until 2004 when the body cancer finally won out, and then pulled the drivetrain.
