im kinda lost

Well i figured id experiment a little with the timing, and end outcome i love it, there are several things that kinda worry me though. I read an article saying that the time is really sensitive so at first i scribed the pump and rotated about 1/16th of an inch between the lines. The difference was jaw dropping, but still no "stroker rattle" when cold. So i bumped it up again, and picked up about the same amount, yet still no rattle. After playing with it, and as far as i went, i decided to advance it as far as i could and see if it would rattle, it does not. It starts SOO much easier now, has alot more power and now actually pulls past 2400, fairly hard even. Ive picked up in fuel mileage a noticeable amount but havent checked it. Now the part that worries me. Even though ive advanced the timing that far, i am unable to see, hear, feel, or even smell any evidence that i am too far advanced and it is turned as far as it will go. Also, the truck actually seems to overfuel worse now than it did in its retarded state. If anyone remembers me talking about the weird things my engine would do before, as far as the erratic acceleration and throttle sticking, those are now gone once the engine is warm, however while the engine is in "cold mode" the truck is barely driveable. the idle surges more so than lopes from 900-1400 rpms, and will do this even if youre on the throttle, so say youre holding it at 1400, it will go between 1400 to around 1800. trying to leave from a stop, the thing will FLAT OUT TAKE OFF, even though youre giving it the slightest amount of throttle, then will immediately fall back on its face to where it "should" be. Note: when the thing surges like that and then falls off, it definately seems to pull harder than even WOT, and decelerates faster than if you just let off the pedal. My guess is there is something bad wrong with the timing advance solenoid, but id like to hear your ideas. Also during its many goofy characteristics, it never does sound like the engine is in any sort of distress, no knocking or roughness or anything. Only if it is close to boiling over (idling too long) and you lug it from a hard take off, it seems i can hear an injector knock.

probably a sticking injector or two.
how many miles on the injectors and ip?
its nice to see more people are giving some attention to tune up,and finally discovering their long lost power again,or perhaps for the first time since idi ownership.
