Took this week off work to get things done around here before the white stuff.
Today I got my 85 one step closer of being back on the road while my 86 is laid up.
I changed the ground cable that was corroded. I changed the carb today. The old one ran rich. I had a rebulit one I bought, but it did not work right for some reason. Well I put it back on today again. After mounting it on. I saw the bottom section of the carb moves. So I removed it and tightened the screws that bolts the throttle plate to the carb. The screws were loose.
Put back on the truck and with minor adjustments it runs smooth now. So this rebuilt carb was not assembled properly at the shops. Causing a vacuum leak. No wonder I could never get it adjusted.
So next is to change the steering colunm and get the exhaust with new hangers. The olds ones are all gone, so hanging with wire now.
Work I been putting off.
I have a list of things to do this week.
New screen door on house, finish a shed, some outside lights need repairs and winterize vehicles.
So how are you guys doing at getting ready for the winter.?
well, I've still got the roof to put on the garage, 1/2 of the house left to shingle...ceiling to insulate, and furnace to have installed... hope the cold stays off for a while yet!!
also, a truck with banana tires on it... whoohoo...
I have to get the two part trucks I bought moved home as well as put some different tires on the 52 and move it into position for its engine swap this winter. Hope the snow holds off for a long while but in this country I wouldnt bet on it.
I need to get a garden shed up so I can clear the rest of the garage out and the wife can park her vehicel in it. I will be in trouble if I don't get that done!! I also need to get the garage insulated. I wanted to get the rest of my fence done, a deck up and a driveway cemented so I could tackle the landscaping next year but It has been a prolonged harvest and work has been busy. I also need to winterize the boat and the '79 I hope it stays nice for a little while yet so I don't have such a long to do list next year!
I have to get my yard cleaned up, my shop doors rebuilt, buy cola for the furnace, and much more, but I'll be working overtime instead and working on house renos too. The yard may have to wait.....
I have to wire and insulate my garage yet. I have to go through the list of trucks and equipment out here and get them ready for winter, change to synthetic oils, check the antifreeze, etc.
I had wanted to get my 99 shortbox on the road for a winter vehicle, but with all the rest of the stuff I have going on, its looking like it might not get fixed till the winter!
I rotated the tires on the Taurus, only to find all the brakes need to be changed. Mainly the rear. They are wore right down that they are now starting to scrape the rotors.
So that will be a priorty next week since this is our daily driver car.
One more thing to do before it gets too cold out.
Change the steering colunm in my 85. The shifter in the colunm was worn out and sloppy. Also the key had very hard time turning, Afraid of breaking the key. When I removed it the igniton relay fell apart.
Put the other colunm in and everything works, except the horn now. I suspect a bad ground. Took the wheel back off and everything seems fine. I have not tested with an ohm meter yet. But I was reading the intermiadate rod can make a bad ground. I probally will change that from the parts truck. The joint at the top of this rod seems loose also, so that may be the problem.
Then I still need to put on a tail pipe to this truck to drive for winter.
But it is back to work tomorrow. Next weekend will be tackling the brakes on the Taurus.
Sure glad I'm not you guys! I managed to get almost all of my "to do" list done this summer, while working a 24 and 4 shift! Hmmm. Layed a brick patio with a firepit, rebuild the back steps to the deck, dug and built a pond with a fountain in the yard, painted the entire basement, (bathroom, 2 bedrooms, and rec-room), and almost finished repairing the holding tank on the 5th wheel. Just have to replace the insulation and bolt on the new underbelly, which is already measured out and cut to fit snuggly so no more squirrels get in! Just been too sick this last week to get that finished. Still tracking the electrical short I had last winter, but that is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Figure I will be looking for that forever, lol.
sounds like we have precipitation coming next week. Hope everyone's ready. I got my house finished shingled now... let the rain/snow come!!! I'm ready (sort of)
Today I finished changing the steering colunm in my 85. It took a while to find the problem why my horn would not work.
I still have to adjust the linkage a bit. It is sitting on the edge of park I can feel.
Replaced broken Stabiliser bolt on the Tuarus. Now back of car does not rattle.
Still have to do the brakes. My tools were not deep enough to compress the disc brake cylinder to fit new pads in.
Yes I saw the forcast for snow. But it shows next weekend sun shining again. So maybe get brakes done then.
But at least I got one more thing off my list.
I still have to retro fit the tailpipe for my 85.
