Engine Swap--desperately Need Info

I have a 97 ranger ex cab 2.9 4cyl 5spd and i want to swap in a late model SOHC 4.0L engine. I was under the inpression that the SOHC 4.0 from '99+ rangers and explorers were the same until I saw a picture of each. They looked a little different to me, maybe it was the heads or valve covers or both, but nevertheless, they looked like they had some differences that may make a direct swap of an explorer engine into my ranger a little difficult. Has anyone had any experiences with this kind of swap? Also, what are the power output ratings of the 4.0L SOHC explorer and the 4.0L SOHC ranger engines? Finally, will either of these engines bolt up to my '97 ranger's 5-spd tranny?

I'm not totally clueless, and I do believe that I know the answers to most of the questions I asked, but I want to make absolutely sure of these answers before I blow all my money on an engine that I can't even use. Also, I need to know the answers to these questions by tomorrow afternoon because I am bidding on an e-bay engine, and the bid ends then. Thank you for your prompt responses as I am pressed for time.
