1997 explorer 4.0 sohc engine problems

does anybody know what it the diferences on engines of a explorer that the 8th letter is an x and if i have an 8th letter on my truck that is an E you know what is the difference? can i put any 4.0 sohc engine on my truck or it has to be the same from an E letter and not an X!! can somebody tell me please

I have an "X" vin, which means the OHV 4.0 as opposed to the SOHC. So I'm presuming you mean you want to take the OHV and put it in your truck, which is/was an SOHC? I'm not 100% sure but you might want to watch things like engine mounts and/or bolt patterns and shafting at the transmission. I don't know if they made these engines with just top-end differences or there's things to be aware of throughout.

Maybe someone a little more qualified will weigh in...
