How does this underhood light mount?

Can someone tell me how this mounts or take a picture of their under hood light for me? I got one at a JY last week and forgot to take a picture of it before I took it off.

and what is this part and how does it mount?

My shop manual only shows the retractable light for my year truck ('85). Also, what type bulb does this one take (there wasn't one in it)? I'm sure that it came off of a newer year than mine (maybe an '87-'91).

That doesn't belong to our year trucks. That is for a 1987 or newer truck.

So if you want to use that, you are going to have to "make it work". You are going to have to drill mounting holes. The second picture is the switch that turns the lamp on and off. You need to mount that in such a way that the lamp is on with the hood up, and off with the hood down.

1980-1986 trucks had a retractable underhood lamp that looks like this here....

I was kind of figuring that I would have to make it work. And I kinda thought that's how that part was supposed to work. Except for the fact that I could get power to the bulb holder no matter how I held either part. But, the two bulbs that I had lying around, that would fit, didn't light up. Oh well, guess I'm still looking for the correct one for our year, unless I can make this one work.

Try asking in the 1987-1996 forum. They may have more knowledge on it than we do here.

As for the retractable lamp. Don't forget to look in the Broncos as well as the pickups.

I'm not sure if they still use mercury switches in the 1987-1991 or if they changed to ball bearing type switches. If the ball sticks it could cause what you describe. Only way to fix that is to get a new one and plug it in.

Thanks, I'll do that.
I sure would like to find a retractable one. Maybe one day I will.
