Rear window trim erosion?

Rear window trim erosion?
Has anyone else noticed the finish on their rear window trim eroding away? I had been keeping an eye on 2 small spots for a year or so with them not really getting much worse, but a few days ago when I washed my truck I noticed even more spots where the finish and top layer is gone. It seems that this trim is very porous, almost sponge like, but rigid. I would say that the bottom ones may be due to cargo in the bed rubbing the trim at some point, but the areas on the top of the window trim is another story. I've never hauled anything that high to where it could cause this issue.
Anyone have any ideas or suggestions or ideas on how to repair this so water doesn't get in and freeze and make it worse, but also looks good. I thought about ordering the new trim, but it only seems to come with all new glass.
