what kind of headers would be best on my 92 f150 w/ the 4.9? i tried doing a search but i couldnt find anything. my stock headers are rusty and a little leaky so its a good excuse to throw on some aftermarket ones.
the only places i know of that have any selection for the 300 are jegs and/or summit and clifford performance. if i remember hooker and heddman are like the only companies that actually make headers for the 4.9
9.Ford.5 is right. If you have 4wd, there maybe some complication with the headers, BUT, either Silverstreak or Andym covered this topic several years ago. You can grind the Alternator bracket for clearance. This complication is due to the serpentine belt introduction. LMC also sells them, but I believe they are high!!
You can do a search on this and come across some pics. I know I have seen the modification on here.
you will have to search the net for jegs and summit they dont print what I6 stuff they do have in their catologies. clifford is all about the big six its the only thing they deal with, if they say it will work, it will work.
If your truck already has the factory split manifold, I don't see the point to getting headers. The 300 is low reving and doesn't move that much air anyway. If your truck doesn't have it, then get it off of a slightly newer truck. I forget what year Ford switched it.
i think i do have two seperate manifolds. the headers i have now are leaking and i am just looking to get a little more power and fix my leaks at the same time.
If the 300 is stock, headers will not do much of anything for it. I would just replace the factory split manifold.
i was actually thinking the same thing but new the stock headers are about 100 dollars a side and those clifford headers arent insanely expensive. what if the truck has gutted cats, an exhaust, and an msd coil? i appreciate your suggestion and i see where you are coming from.
again, your motor is stock, the exhaust isnt a big problem on these things from the factory. it keeps up with the factory intake pretty well, so unless youve dont something to make it take IN more air it wont be pushing any more OUT no matter how free your exhaust is.

like i said earlier, i see what you mean when you say that the motor is stock. i may do more engine mods in the future and i would like to put on high performance headers while i have it apart. i just saw these on ebay
the only way to find out if they will fit is to buy em and make em fit. if you gotta modify em, so what. its a learning experience, never expect ANYTHING to "bolt on"
I believe it may interfere with the first cat and where the O2 sensor is. Esentially look like long tube headers for other Fords. You can do as 9.Ford.5 says and try.
