I been looking at a 99 and up PSD fuel filter housing. Been thinking about installing it on my IDI. I am thinking about it since the IDI filters are apparently made from gold and the PSD filters are less than $12 each. Up front just studing pictures of the PSD filter and knowing the IDI setup the change over from what I can see seems straight forward. Have any of you ever tried this setup or another type of fuel filter setup?
only reason the psd filters are cheap is because its nothing but a plastic lid and a paper element. idi's are steel cap, steel case and paper element with much much more contact area then the psd.
What I get looking at Napa's filter specs is both 7.3's use a 14 micron filter, and the 6.9 is a 6.
In my experience the PSD filter is about the same price as a 7.3 IDI filter, and the 6.9 one is considerably cheaper. Looking at rock auto, both 7.3 filters are $26 or so, while the 6.9 filter is around the $10 mark, of course, it doesn't have a water separator though.
