I am trying to restore a 78' ford 3/4 ton but I needed a new frame, I found a 78' 1/2 ton long box and I was wondering how much work it would be to change it over. I realy want to keep it a 3/4 ton. If some body could help me out with this I would really apreciate thanks.
yeah I was aware of that. But changing that front suspension over I dont think will be that big of a deal. If thats the only thing I have to worry about I think I might give it a shot
thanks for the suggestion
I am putting 3/4 ton running gear under my F-150 Supercab and would also like to know if anything needs to be beefed up. I would think they are the same frame - anyone seen two of them side by side?
You might want to try the search function. Frame and suspension conversions have been discussed numerous times. From what I remember, going from front coils to leaf is difficult, if that is what you are contemplating. You don't say whether your F250 is 2wd or 4wd. We need info to help without too much confusion.
a lot of hardcore four wheelers do this 3/4 ton conversion on their half tons for beefier axles. IF you got the time to change over the suspension and everything you should be fine.
I converted my 78 F-150 driving truck into a leaf-sprung unit with a dana 60 front competition street pulling truck. I used the front leafs and hangers off of a 79 F-150 crew cab. We made templates from the donor frame to see where to drill the holes. We used a piece of carboard to make the templates.(You'll need to cut a hole in your frame for the rear hanger.) You'll have to do something funky with the steering linkage because the 3/4 tons ran the p/s box on the inside and I'm sure you know that your 1/2 tons box is on the outside. With my 60 front I had to go with a mid 70's Dodge box to make it steer right. Not sure what will need done for a 44 front. Anything is possible with a Ford! Good luck.
