I have a leak at the mani to down pipe connection. Is there no gasket there? I have tried to find a gasket or something........perhaps a little info please.
My sig says 88 4.9, EFI manifolds front and rear split with two exhaust flanges with 2 studs each.
Ok so now I've been told there isn't any gasket. Can anyone elaberate on fixes or just put in new pipe flanges.....I mean can the serfaces just be sanded or something? Not sure I can touque them any tighter. The PO for some reason had the wrong stud sizes installed and I couldn'r torque them down. I went to the junk yard and pulled some original studs and I can spot torque them...er (torque them till I see spots) but I still get that blasted exhaust tick.
The EFI manifolds seal up with pressure. The exhaust pipe is dished slightly smaller than the "ball" shaped end of the manifolds. When they torque, the dish presses onto the ball, sealing it. If it's not sealing, the exhaust pipe connections may have been stretched too much and no longer press onto the manifold tightly.
Secondly, are you sure it's that connection that's leaking and not the intake/exhaust gasket?
