Has anyone ever bought a new replacement tailgate? From what I've seen they have no pre drilled holes, or the studds for attaching the trim clips. Drilling holes wouldn't be a big deal, but how would you attach your trim clips?
I talked to a guy who had one, he said it came ready to go, just needed to swap all the latches, handles, trim, bolts and stuff onto the new one, and paint it of course. He did say that it was made a little thinner than stock, and weight a lot less
My truck originally didnt have trims in the tailgate but when I restore it I decide to install de upper an lower molding trims I drill holes were the plastic clips are supossed to be and I used a small head screws to attach them, LMC sells the clips with rivets, I think its easier to use screws than rivets, well thats my opinion.
Yeah Ronzi is right, they are pretty flimsy. When we bought my truck, it had an aftermarket tailgate and it's crap. I'm still looking for a good OEM one.
If you are going to use your tailgate at all you should just buy an oem one or fix yours if possible because the generics are absolute pos, unless its for a show truck or for very light use. The last really nice oem one I saw was at a show for $300.
I am just going to tow a trailer with this truck when I am done and I was thinking it may be best to have one of the special V gates. The gate on this one is beyond repair. But it seemed like they did not make them for trucks earlier than 79 or later.
Has anyone heard of a gate for the 73 or a source for me to look.

This would be a ton of work but you could try and make one. Just get the two plates for the sides for the latches, strap to keep it from coming down too far.and circle mount. Then weld the rest of the metal inbetween the side plates.
