I am adding the aluminum trim that runs down the side of style sides. The trim itself is original and in very good condition except for the tarnished anodized alum finish. I'll working on that too.
Since my F100 did not originally come with the trim, I will working blind positioning the clips on the truck body. There are 3 differnt size clips which are appropriate for each of the trim sections. I know which clips go with the sections but dont know where to attcah the clips to the truck.
I would prefer not to just start drilling holes and hope they're in the correct spots. I ordered the new clips from one of the catalogs but they do not provide a diagram for body positioning.
Does anyone have any thoughts on positioning the clips on the body? Does the placement even matter??
I have a TON of these big clips...I went and saw a truck that had been prettied up at a wrecking yard and had the moldings replaced...they were gone...the clips it had were repops...and didnt have the plastic insulators nor the rubber O grommets to seal the holes as original...they looks like crap and I was amazed they held as they look flimsy to say the least.
But, as I said if you want some good originals let me know...i dont have any of the hood molding clips...those are the worst to find in good shape. The cowl molding clips Ive seen on a few different applications but are a square pop in type clip typically but I have seen the smaller version of the other clips used as well in this location...you need a small arm and nimble fingers to get the nuts on...but its doable as ive pulled them off in the past.
You replied to a post a few weeks where you suggested the user get a catalog. I read that post and thought it was a good idea so I oredered one. Still getting used to using it, obviously, since I didnt see the diagram. The exploded views I find to be the most useful. Thx again.
I'm pretty sure some one posted a diagram of where the holes are using exact measuremants. Maybe that was just for the bed but the measuremants were listed. Can't remember. HMMMMM.

Before posting my question, I searched old posts but couldn't find anything relevant. If you can remember that would also be helpful.

I went through the catalog and looked again at the clips and their part numbers and noted the illustrated body type(63-64 integral body and seperate cab/bed style trim...they showed nearly all D clips...D being the letter to denote the type and p/n...the 63-64 trucks used basicly the same trim the full length except at the hood spear point...thus all the same clips...and the y also used that square pop in clip on the fwd cowl mldg...ipulled alot of these over the years...those clips are a PITA to get off w/o messing the molding up on 63-64 trucks.
the part numbers shown in the parts catalog is a C4TZ part number...thus it was NOT used on 65-66 trucks...furthermore the 65-66 trucks used the same basic clip design but there were 4 different lengths used and no square pop in clip on the forward cowl molding. Why 4 different length molding clips ? the molding theme starts at a point at the hood front side and tapers back and has the curved are in the front of the door molding...
the 65-66 clips also used the plastic dog leg retainer which was riveted onto the straight basic clip which had the metal wire dog leg retention leg done away with as they broke or as seen today...rusts away and it spins during removal.
An example of the 65 clip part numbers for the door moldings are C5OZ16A076B(2 required) and C5GY16249B(10 required)..whenever you got a replacement molding NOS the clips(retainers) and fasteners come with...
this info is from a fat 1965 only parts book that per one much wiser then I says were typically tossed in the trash upon receipt...If you look in the TEXT of the MPC...you will see this info as well...which for whatever reason wasnt noted in the illustration section. the text says all the moldings came with retainers...and all listed the p/n used...except the hood molding...
ive already looked up the retainers...i couldnt find any NOS...but the ones DC is reproducing appear correct from the pic I see in their 2011 paper catalog.
ok, molding retainer lesson over :-) hehe...there will be a pop quiz later...LOL...
FWIW, Im still on the hunt for the elusive pair of NOS longbed moldings...
