You Won’t Believe What This Family Did to this Ford GT…

2005 Ford GT

The modern Ford GT was built between 2004 and 2006 and is prized by collectors. Yet, this 2005 model rotted outside for 5 years.

We can hear you all now. How the heck can this happen? A highly collectible and valuable 2005 Ford GT left outside to rot for five years?!? Well, sometimes bad things happen. In the case of this particular car its owner passed away suddenly. At that point a car, even one as special as the Ford GT, is just not a top priority any longer. The family of the deceased owner had other things to focus on. As a result this beautiful car sat outside in the elements for five long years. We are probably safe to assume that no other Ford GT of this era has suffered this fate. Most live the bulk of their lives in climate-controlled garages, get driven to a local cars and coffee, and then rubbed down with the finest microfiber towels when they get home.

This Ford GT is unique because it was neglected for years. But also, because it is now being brought back to showroom new condition before it gets sold at auction. A video about this car was recently posted on the AMMO NYC YouTube channel. This video shows us not only the transformation, but also features Doug DeMuro who will get this car when it is cleaned up to sell on his Cars & Bids car auction site.

2,500 Mile Basket Case

dirt

You will likely never see a 2005 Ford GT with only 2,500 miles on it in such a sad state. The car is understandably filthy. Woodland creatures have been living in the thing. It is full of dirt, leaves, nuts, twigs, rat poop, and everything else you can imagine. The tires are dry rotted. The windshield wiper arms have surface rust on them. It is a mess. But there is some good news. The car is straight and true. The paint is good. The only rust is the tiny bit on the wiper arms. So, as bad as this car seems, it is mostly just surface grime and nothing that should harm the car long term.

Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

wash

The car is vacuumed first. Then the dirt is air blasted out of the crevices. A power wash is next to further loosen the stubborn dirt. Then a nice foamy agitation wash takes place. The wheels are then cleaned. Compressed air is used again to blow out any debris that was missed. The headlights are restored and buffed clear. Moving to the inside the car the seats and floorboards were removed so the entire area could be cleaned. The interior is treated to a deep steam clean. The exterior is washed again. The next day the car is taken to the shop for a fresh oil change. And while it is on the lift the undercarriage is cleaned. The wheels and valve covers are removed and refinished. New tires were mounted. The end result is what looks like a brand new 2005 Ford GT.

Would You Buy It?

2005 Ford GT

The best part of all this is of course the drive. And out on the road the Ford GT is a pleasure and drives as you would expect. If you never saw this video you would think this is a typical Ford GT that has been babied since 2005. But you have seen this video. And if you were in the market for a modern Ford GT would you feel confident bidding on this one? These typically sell in the $300K to $400K range. Would you spend that money on a car that sat outside like this one did? Do you think it should be worth less? Honestly, after this cleaning and service, this car is probably as good as any other Ford GT out there. Would you buy it? It sitting outside for years would not stop me from buying it. Although not having $400K lying around would.
