Shelby GT500 Heritage Edition Owner Customizes Son’s Power Wheel to Match
This Shelby GT500 Heritage Edition owner and his car-loving son took delivery on the same day.
Most likely, everyone reading this got at least some of their passion for automobiles from someone else. Typically, this is passed down from generation to generation, though there are exceptions to the rule, obviously. We see a lot of that on a daily basis in the Ford Truck Enthusiasts forums, and now, we’re seeing it on fully display in Michigan with the father and son duo of Trevor and Reed Weslock. When Trevor was set to take delivery of his brand new 2022 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Heritage Edition recently, he wanted to do something special for his car-loving four-year-old, so he came up with a pretty genius solution.
That solution was to customize a Power Wheel to match his Shelby GT500 Heritage Edition, and then “deliver” it to Reed at the same time Trevor was set to take delivery of his new pony car. Problem was, Power Wheels doesn’t make a GT500, only a Mustang GT, which Reed already owned. Thus, the elder Weslock enlisted a local shop to create a wrap that’s as close to his car’s Brittany Blue paint as possible, with matching Wimbledon White stripes to boot.
The details didn’t stop there, as the Power Wheels pony car also features 3D hood vents, Mustang pony badges, Shelby badging, and even hood pins, just like the real thing. Weslock dubbed the finished product “Mini 31,” an ode to his car’s VIN number, and quite literally uncovered it at Rick Ford when he took delivery of his new Mustang. “It was tough to get materials for it, but we found a way,” Weslock said. “Reed had no idea his was missing or that anything was being done to it.” Needless to say, it was a day to remember for both father and son in this particular case.
“It’s safe to say this is my favorite Mustang that I’ve owned by a longshot and Reed was grinning from ear to ear,” Weslock said. “He prefers the sound of the exhaust in the Track Mode setting and wouldn’t stop talking about how much he liked the car. This is truly what it’s all about, quality time with my family, with an exhaust note that that makes you want to downshift every chance you get. It’s more fun to see him enjoy it than it will be for me,” said Weslock. “He is just thoroughly excited to be around cars.”
