New Ford F-150 Offered to NFL Quarterback as Victory Prize
Third string Lions quarterback David Blough stands to win a new F-150 if he can pull off an improbable win Sunday.
If you’re a fan of professional football, you’re well aware that things haven’t exactly gone very well for the Detroit Lions this season. Which is sadly (for Lions fans) pretty much the norm. This year, the team got off to a solid start before losing starting quarterback Matthew Stafford to injury. Then, their backup quarterback, Jeff Driskel, also got hurt. That forced the team to roll out former undrafted free agent David Blough, who has had his moments despite losing four straight games. But if Blough can pull off a win against the Green Bay Packers the final week of the regular season, he has a shot at scoring a brand new 2020 Ford F-150.
But it isn’t Ford, nor the NFL, nor the Lions offering him a new F-150 in exchange for an upset win. It’s actually a New Orleans Saints fan by the name of Matt Bowers dangling the pickup in front of Blough’s eyes (or garage). Bowers owns a car dealership in in Slidell, Louisiana and is obviously quite the Saints super fan. And if the 3-11-1 Lions manage to upset the 12-3 Packers Sunday, the Saints have a better shot at securing a top two seed in the playoffs, which guarantees them home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
Bro – #NOLA is supporting you Sunday Beat the #Packers and I will hook you up with a new 2020 Silverado or 2020 F150 ( or whatever you want – I’m cool ) 👊🏻 #Lions #Saints @david_blough10 #WhoDatNation pic.twitter.com/9ajZJQWD7r

“He’s in Detroit, so I have to get him an American truck, right? I figure that’s good karma,” Bowers told NOLA.com. “I can’t go back too far now. I’m all out there now. “Whatever we can do. Whatever he needs to be ready,” Bowers said. “I’ve seen crazier things happen. The Falcons came in here and beat us when they had two wins. They can do it. (Blough) has to believe they can do it. Whatever we can do to that go easier.”
To his credit, Blough got a kick out of the offer. “Obviously, I saw it,” Blough told MLive following Thursday’s practice. “I don’t even know the circumstances of the deal, if it’s a legit offer. I’m just worried about beating Green Bay. It’s fun. That’s hilarious he’d throw that out — people’s fandom, for their city and for the No. 1 seed and all that stuff, that’s awesome. I’m just going to do everything I can to put our team in the best position to win and I would have done that if there was a car on the line or not a car on the line. It doesn’t change how I’m going to prepare or anything.”
The Lions are presently 12.5-point underdogs, so it’s obviously not going to be easy. But perhaps the enticing offer of a new F-150 will prove just enough to push Blough a little harder? We’ll just have to tune in Sunday and find out!
