Let’s Show Some Love for the Bricknose Ford F-150: Two Tone Tuesday
We found a beautiful eighth-generation F-150 in our forums with classic bricknose style and some cool modern updates.
When it comes to two tone trucks, we know there is a lot of love for all generations of the F-Series. But let’s be honest, some trucks get a little more action than others. Like the eighth-generation Ford F-150 is overlooked in favor it of its predecessors: the fifth-gen bumpsides (1967-1972) and sixth-gen dentsides (1973-1979). And rightfully so, they’re incredibly cool trucks. But we can’t overlook the power of a solid bricknose F-150.
Ford F-150’s that came off the line from 1986 to 1991 made up the eighth-generation. These trucks were still tough pickups, but with the added bonus of a refreshed interior and exterior. It was the first major design change since the 1980 F-150. One of the most noticeable changes was the front end. The sharper angles were softened, the grille was cleaner, and now it included flush composite headlights with wraparound turn signals. With its now flattened front end, it earned it the nickname “bricknose” or “bricks.”
It’s no secret than many Blue Oval diehards don’t love the bricknose. Yes, we are looking at you, members of our Forums! We think that it is an often overlooked truck, and bottom line: they just look great–pure Ford.
To further prove our point, we found a very sweet example of a 1987 F-150 for Two Tone Tuesday. Owned by FTE Forum member (and appropriately named) 87Ford400, this F-150 XLT Lariat is an arresting ride in blue and gray.
87Ford400 has put in some very nice upgrades of his own, including a major kick of power.
“Started out as a 4.9l inline 6,” he writes. “I bought it with a 400m and swapped that out for a 460 ci about 7 years ago.”
She is a clean machine, and adding LED headlamp bulbs was a great mod.
“Added A/C on the old girl,” 87Ford400 recently wrote, and showed off that nice engine bay.
Inside, a few minor changes, like new carpet, make a big impact.
He installed a new gauge panel with autometer LED bulbs, and we cannot get enough. We love it, we think it is so cool, and we want one.
Of course, she’s gotta ride solid, and she definitely does.
We can all agree, bricknose fans or not, that this F-150 is a hot ride with two tone perfection.
