Ford E-350 Centurion: An Abundance of Wrong…in the Best Way Possible!
The interior offered amenities such as a foldout bed, lights, swivel chairs, television, CB radio…you know, classic old school van stuff. Unfortunately, not as much thought went into the performance, running a Ford C6 transmission with three-speed, and an almost criminal fuel efficiency. According to Mr. Regular, the 1986 van truck he drove got about eight to nine miles per gallon! As he says, “A monstrosity from a simpler time.”
Of course, we can’t over look the obvious: The appearance. As Mr. Regular states, when riding this, people will look at it in confusion and ask if this was a custom build. We wonder what made Centurion choose this particularly disjointed aesthetic. Well, when a van and a truck love each other very much, they turn down the lights and play some Barry White….It would seem that the style was born from a desire to get in on the custom van trend quickly while offering a reliable towing rig, they just went for a vehicle that was fun in the front, and business in the back. A reverse mullet.
Hey, not every Ford can be a winner. But those misfires are pretty interesting, nonetheless. As Mr. Regular says, “The automotive community wouldn’t be what it is without its oddities and relics.” And this one relic that is definitely very odd.
