Classic Ford F-250 Undergoes Amazing Transformation
Ford Truck Enthusiasts member takes this old F-250 from weathered beater to absolute showstopper in no time.
Outside of building/restoring our own trucks, there’s nothing more satisfying than watching someone else do it. And if you enjoy seeing these old Fords drug out of fields and brought back to their former glory as much as we do, we’ve got a real doozy for you today. This amazing 1979 Ford F-250 transformation from Ford Truck Enthusiasts member JRB64 is mostly complete, which makes looking back at what he started with all the more shocking.
“I just bought this 1979 F-250 with a 351, C6, and 205 transfer case. The truck belonged to a friend of mine that I have done a lot of business with. He owns a transmission shop and rebuilt the transmission, transfer case, and the rear diff. He also inspected and put new bearings in the front diff and serviced it. This is one clean truck with no rust at all and it has very minimal dents. Luckily, my son works for a body shop and can do the body work and paint for a great price.”
There were quite a few positives to the F-250 from day one. That included a 4-inch suspension lift, 3-inch body lift, and 38″ tires. But make no mistake – there was still a lot of work to do here. The heater, fan motor, and temp sensor weren’t working when the OP bought the truck, for starters. But having the body and paint already taken care of is obviously a huge benefit. But first, the OP wanted to work on getting his new F-250 running right.
“I did a tune up on the engine and it runs like a sewing machine. It did start making a high pitch whining noise and I am afraid that might be the bearings in the water pump. Or it could be the power steering pump as well. I did get to drive it a bit yesterday and it drives really nice. Has a few rattles that I need to fix, but it seems to be a pretty tight driving truck. I did find another tag on the inside of the driver’s side hood and it says the original engine was a 400. Now is has a 351. Has plenty of power and runs really nice.”
In the meantime, the OP had to sort out a bunch of other small issues. Including turn signals that didn’t want to work and oil pressure issues. But after getting all of that sorted out, it was finally time for the F-250 to head to paint and body.
A few weeks later, the old Ford was finished and looking pretty darn amazing. And after adding a set of new Mickey Thompson wheels and tires, it was looking even better. At this point, the interior is out and being restitched, so we aren’t too far off from the finish line.
The transformation this F-250 has gone through thus far is nothing short of amazing. And we’re obviously excited to see how it ultimately turns out. So be sure and head over here and stay tuned for those last few finishing details!
