Gone Farmin'

Trucks and farmers have a long history, dating back way before we used our pickups as do-it-all vehicles. In the old days, farmers used their trucks as workhorses, hauling all manner of animals and things around their property. So to say that an auction like Mecum's Gone Farmin' sale is overdue might be a bit of an understatement.

Pump the Brakes

This auction takes place November 6-9 in Davenport, Iowa, which is obviously a very appropriate venue for such a sale. And while sifting through the many cool listings, we stopped in our virtual tracks when we came across this gorgeous 1970 Ford F-100

True Survivor

While this is a farm-themed sale, we're having a hard time believing this F-100 ever incurred a hard day's work in its life. Mostly because inside and out, it's in incredibly immaculate condition. No word on whether the truck has had any work done to it, but it does look mostly original at first glance.

Clean and Complete

The blue and white two-tone paint certainly shines, and we're guessing it's at least received a full correction for these glamour shots. All of the trim also appears to be in good shape. And there's a lot of it since this is a Ranger XLT equipped pickup.

Full Disclosure

That tidiness carries over to the interior, which is also in immaculate condition. Not perfect, mind you, but well kept for sure. There is a bit of wear here and there, but we actually like our old Ford trucks this way. At least you know that it's an honest buy that isn't trying to hide anything.

No Tricks

The most obvious sign that this F-100 has been used lies under the hood, as is typical with this generation of truck. But again, we prefer it this way. Many sellers repaint components in an effort to cover up things you might want to see. But there's none of that trickery going on here.

Good as Is

Personally, we'd leave this F-100 as is. There's nothing wrong with a little polishing and cleaning, of course. But this Ford wears its battle scars with pride. No need to cover them up with a respray or shiny new chrome.

Understated Beauty

We're also digging the big truck mirrors and hub caps, things that a lot of folks would ditch right off the bat. Because somebody clearly loved this truck for many years. Why would we want to go and mess with that?

Total Mystery

The seller claims that this pickup has low, original miles, but the ad doesn't give us any other details. Given the condition this F-100 is in, we don't doubt that claim. But we'd love to know the story behind this particular pickup because we bet it's a good one.

Second Look

Regardless, we know a good truck when we see it. And this classic F-100 is most certainly a good truck. Obviously, any potential buyer would want to take a closer look in person before taking the plunge, but we doubt they'd be disappointed after bringing this one home.
